Transforming Children and Teens is a manual to equip parents, caregivers, teachers and social workers and any person working with children and teens. This manual embraces both areas but certain chapters will be more relevant to specific age groups and areas of community. Choose the relevant sections and impart the knowledge and processes to change lives.

Children's and teen's lives are shaped by the family of origin, significant others and defining events. A fundamental need of people is to be intimately connected in relationship with others. Safe family environments and secure family attachments are vital to create healthy functioning people. Unsafe family environments create maladaptive ways of coping with the pressures of life. The emotional neglect of a child can have devastating and traumatic effects. The ability to receive and give love is often determined by the quality of love received in the early years of the child’s life. Physical nurture and emotional love are vital components of secure attachment. Building intimate relationships requires risks to be taken. Children and teens need acceptance and nurture as they expose the deeper inner part of their self to others. They need to find safe places to do this work of being reconnected to others and establishing warm intimate relationships.
